For a traditional Javanese experience in Jogjakarta, join my livestream walking and bike tour where we’ll explore a different way of life in a small local village and enjoy the rural scenery while discovering the life and work in this quieter and simplified way of life.In this break from the big city we'll encounter a slower pace of life in Kwagon village, a bastion of rice paddies, mingling with the rising mist and tropical forests. Working the rice terraces and making bricks and ceramics are the main professions here, and the locals are very house proud, taking a lot of care over their homes. The trees huddle together like watchful guardians of the village, their branches whispering in the wind as we press on to discover some of the local plants and fruit in the surrounding areas, including bananas, cherries, monstera, and sugar cane.Among the key highlights of this place include the impressive irrigation system and canal for the rice fields, as well as the cemetery, blanketed with traditional headstones. It’s a somber but strikingly impressive place, and a reminder that death can still bring some beauty with it. During the live virtual tour, you’ll be greeted by the friendly and warm villagers and workers. It’s even an opportunity to learn a few words in the local dialect; we can start with ‘Mongo’ which means hello. You might even be invited to stay for some Gudeg, the delicious local dish, served on a banana leaf. I look forward to sharing this traditional and beautiful village with you!
