Join us for a livestream virtual walking tour of Lower Manhattan, where history and modernity intersect in powerful ways. This dynamic tour takes students through iconic landmarks and pivotal moments in American history. During the tour, students can speak with me and ask questions, while I steam to you live out on location. We’ll start at St. Paul's Chapel, the oldest surviving church building in Manhattan, where George Washington prayed on the day of his inauguration. Students will also learn how this historic chapel served as a sanctuary for first responders during the aftermath of 9/11. Next, we’ll visit the Ground Zero Memorial sites, where students will reflect on the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and discover stories of resilience and remembrance. The towering New Millennium Tower will provide insight into NYC's transformation in the 21st century. Our tour will then take us to Trinity Church, one of New York’s most significant religious landmarks, followed by a stop at Alexander Hamilton's tomb, honoring the Founding Father and the first Secretary of the Treasury. Before concluding at Wall Street, the heart of America's financial district, we’ll see where George Washington’s inauguration was held. Here, students will delve into the history of the street names, including Wall Street itself, tracing its roots back to Dutch settlers and the original colonial outpost of New Amsterdam.
